NGI, in collaboration with 2018 CNN Hero Dr. Ricardo Pun-Chong, has an ongoing initiative through Inspira, which has made a significant impact by aiding over 2,700 families in Peru. Founded in 2008 by Dr. Pun-Chong, Inspira initially supported children with cancer and later expanded its services to assist those suffering from burns, cerebral palsy, and cleft lip. Due to the scarcity of specialized hospitals throughout Peru, patients often travel to Lima for medical treatment.
Recently, a new Inspira shelter was constructed, spanning 7,300 sq. ft and designed as a four-story building. This expansion has increased the shelter’s capacity to accommodate 120 guests, tripling that of the previous facility. The new building includes specialized rooms for bone marrow transplant patients and shared rooms for other children and their mothers. Although the facility has been a blessing, it currently operates at only 50% capacity due to the lack of funding needed to run at full capacity.
