Inspira – Peru

Through a powerful international partnership with Inspira and 2018 CNN Hero Dr. Ricardo Pun-Chong, the Newman Global Initiative proudly supports a life-changing healthcare mission that has aided over 2,700 families across Peru. Founded in 2008, Inspira began by providing refuge for children battling cancer, later expanding its specialized care to assist young patients suffering from severe burns, cerebral palsy, and cleft lip.

Because specialized medical facilities are scarce throughout Peru, families often must travel long distances to Lima for critical treatments. To meet this urgent need, a brand new 7,300 square foot, four-story shelter was recently constructed. This modern expansion tripled the previous capacity, allowing the facility to host up to 120 guests at once, complete with specialized isolation rooms for bone marrow transplant patients and comfortable shared spaces for mothers and children.

Driven on the ground by dedicated high school student volunteers who manage grassroots fundraising campaigns, awareness drives, and community outreach, this project bridges communities across continents. While this new facility has been an incredible blessing, it currently operates at only fifty percent capacity due to ongoing funding shortfalls. Through sustained student-led advocacy and donor support, NGI remains committed to helping Inspira open its doors fully, ensuring no child is turned away.
